| M2024058 | 7:30 Mine Road | NULL | Possible Illegal Mining ActivityNULL | Multiple parcels above Silver Plume, illegal mine is located at the Porter Mining Claim, Clear Creek County Parcel ID #195918200616. Roughly 1/4 mile to the Northeast from the 7:30 Mine Trail's third switchback from the bottom trailhead Clear Creek County staff originally discovered an unpermitted road/path cut off the 7:30 trail, which originated in Town of Silver Plume property. The town was notified and County Trails staff got drone footage of an excavator cutting through an old tailings pile. CC Sheriffs were notified about the work done on town property, and made contact with an individual operating the excavator. Other County Departments were notified (Site Development, Building, Code Enforcement) and completed a site visit on 11/18/21 with Trails Staff. County Staff were able to follow the road/path cut which led directly to the Porter Mine. County staff documented construction material and modern mining equipment present throughout multiple sites, as well as a PVC pipe draining some sort of fluid out of the Porter Mine Tunnel entrance out into the environment. County staff have plenty of pictures and documents to provide if needed. County Staff's largest concern is the stability of the large tailings pile that was cut through to access the Porter Mine. The cuts were done in a way that destabilized the tailings pile and have already had issues with dust blowing from the pile cuts. Town of Silver Plume and CC Sheriff's office have been involved for the damage/work done on properties where the owners did not approve of or contract the excavation and road cuts done. CC County Departments involved: Parks and Rec (Trails), Site Development, Building, Code Enforcement, Sheriff's Office Reports will also be filed with CDPHE regarding the water/fluid discharge from the mine as well. East of Berthoud, CO My understanding is that this permit is specifically for construction of I-25. We have noticed trucks heading south and when we followed them, we discovered fill dirt was being supplied to a Mead development. This limited permit was approved without any notice or input from adjoining landowners and we are told it was approved in this manner because of the limitation in time and use for the I-25 project. An expansion of use beyond that does not seem appropriate. We discussed the original use with SEMA operator when the project started. While we don't agree with embarking on a project of this scale with no county approval and no ability for public input, we have decided not to pursue further actions regarding the use of this pit specifically for I-25. However, an expansion of use beyond that is another story.NULL | CT | 1 | 1/19/2023 | NULL | NULL | NULL | NULL | NULL | ||
